The departments of Jewish studies and religious studies at Colby College invite applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor (sabbatical replacement), beginning September 1, 2024. The successful candidate will teach four courses, including two surveys on Jews and Judaism (one premodern, one modern). The remaining courses should draw on the candidate’s own interests and relate to the requirements of the Jewish studies and religious studies departments. Applicants should not only demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching diverse undergraduates in a liberal arts setting but provide evidence of their effectiveness as an educator. We welcome applicants from all relevant disciplines and areas of expertise. A terminal academic degree in hand by the time of appointment is strongly preferred.
Applicants should submit via Interfolio (http://apply.interfolio.com/136422) a cover letter; curriculum vitae; three confidential letters of recommendation; a teaching statement that demonstrates commitment to the value of diversity and to inclusive teaching as well as competency to teach academic survey courses on both premodern and modern Jewish history; and material that demonstrates effectiveness as an educator (e.g., a course syllabus or a set of course evaluations). Applications received by January 3, 2024, will receive full consideration. For more information, contact david.freidenreich@colby.edu.
