EAJS Conference Grant Programme: Call for Applications

According to their call, “[t]he European Association for Jewish Studies (EAJS) invites applications to the EAJS Conference Grant Programme in European Jewish Studies for the academic year 2026/27, funded by the Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe. The purpose of this programme is twofold: to foster cooperation among scholars involved in Jewish Studies across Europe, and to support early career researchers in this field to develop a professional network. As a new feature for this round of applications, the EAJS invites its Student Members to apply for funding for Graduate Conferences.

Wiss. Mitarbeiter*in (m/w/d) Judaistik @ Freie Universität Berlin

Gemäß Call bietet “[d]ie Judaistik an der Freien Universität Berlin […] Studiengänge im Fach Judaistik für den B.A. und M.A. an, ermöglicht die Promotion im Fach Judaistik und beteiligt sich an interdisziplinären Lehrangeboten und Studiengängen im Fachbereich Geschichts- und Kulturwissenschaften (gegenwärtig z.B. Master “Interdisciplinary Studies of the Middle East”). Das Institut ist Mitglied im Netzwerk des Selma-Stern Zentrums für Jüdische Studien Berlin-Brandenburg und betreibt judaistische Forschung und Lehre in Kooperation mit Universitäten in Europa, Israel und den USA. Die Lehre des Instituts umfasst die Geschichte und Literatur des Judentums in der antiken und spätantiken Welt, die Sozial- und Geistesgeschichte des Mittelalters, der Neuzeit und Moderne sowie die Gegenwart jüdischen Lebens in Israel und der Diaspora. Die Studiengänge vermitteln den Studierenden die Kompetenz im Umgang mit jüdischen Originalquellen, ihrer Interpretation und wissenschaftlich fundierten Darstellung.”

Leo Baeck Institute – Gerald Westheimer Career Development Fellowship

According to their call, “[t]he Leo Baeck Institute is offering a Career Development Award as a personal grant to a scholar or professional in an early career stage, e.g. before gaining tenure in an academic institution or its equivalent, whose proposed work would deal with topics within the Leo Baeck Institute’s mission, namely historical or cultural issues of the Jewish experience in German-speaking lands.”

Postdoctoral Associate in Jewish Thought / Philosophy at Yale University

Acording to their call, “[t]he Program in Jewish Studies at Yale University is offering a two-year Postdoctoral fellowship that will begin on July 1, 2026. Candidates for the fellowship must have a Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2026 and must have received the degree no earlier than 2023. The Program seeks a specialist in Jewish Thought and/or Philosophy who will work closely with appropriate members of Yale’s faculty. The Jewish Studies Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to be in residence, to conduct research in Yale’s library and archival collections, to participate actively in the intellectual life of the university, teach two courses, one per year with the option of substituting the organization of a conference, seminar, or colloquium for the second year’s course.”

International Humanities Postdoctoral Research Associate in Jewish Mysticism at Brown University

According to their call, “[t]he Department of Religious Studies, Program in Judaic Studies, and Cogut Institute for the Humanities at Brown University invite applications for a two-year appointment as International Humanities Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Jewish mystical tradition. Candidates should have teaching competence in Kabbalah and the Zohar (and know the requisite languages), but the area of research specialization is open. We are especially interested in the areas of Jews and Judaism in the Sephardic or Islamic worlds; comparative mysticism; and the intersection of Kabbalah and hermeneutics within a wider humanistic frame.”

According ot their call, “the Program in Jewish Studies at Yale University is offering a two-year Postdoctoral fellowship that will begin on July 1, 2026. International Ephraim E. UrbachPost Doctoral Fellowship 2026-2027

Nominations for the International Ephraim E. Urbach Post Doctoral Fellowship 2026-2027 are now open. According to their call, “The Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture is inviting nominations for the International Ephraim E. Urbach Post-Doctoral Fellowship in any field of Jewish Studies for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Urbach Fellowship is aimed at assisting recipients of the PhD within the past 3 years in launching their scholarly careers through publication of their first book and furthering research in their areas of specialization.”

AAJR Baron Book Prize

Accoridng to their call, “The American Academy for Jewish Research invites submissions for the Salo Wittmayer Baron Book Prize.  The Baron Book Prize ($3,000) is awarded annually to the author of an outstanding first book in Jewish studies.

Eligibility:  An academic book in English, in any area of Jewish studies, published in calendar year 2025. The work must be the author’s first scholarly book. Authors must have received their Ph.D. within the previous ten years, no earlier than 2015.”

Deadline: 31 January 2026.

AAJR Dissertation Research Funding

Accoridng ot their call, “AAJR provides stipends of up to $4,000 for dissertation research grants. The funds are not intended for language study or equipment. Funding is available to Ph.D. graduate students in any field of Jewish studies at a North American university. Applicants must have submitted their Ph.D. Dissertation prospectus and have a demonstrated need for materials from archival, library, or manuscript collections or for ethnographic research. Applications for research-related expenses and/or the purchase of copied or scanned items will be considered.”
