Exhibition Opening Mikveh Schmalkalden

Today marks the exhibition opening of the mikveh found during archaeological investigations in Schmalkalden. The mikveh probably dates from the late medieval/early modern period and is now located in the vaulted cellar of a half-timbered house built in the 17th century. After its discovery in 2015 (Archaeologie online reported), it was restored and extensively investigated – and is now open to the public.

Hebrew Manuscripts on Display in Exhibition “Torah, Talmud, Tefillot. Jewish Literature from Five Centuries” in the Thuringian University and State Library Jena

Since November of last year, the Thuringian University and State Library Jena (ThULB) has been hosting the exhibition “Tora, Talmud, Tefillot. Jewish Literature from Five Centuries in the Thuringian University and State Library Jena”. The ThULB has a collection of more than 1000 titles of Jewish works (or works closely related to Judaism) from the 13th to the 19th centuries, a representative selection of which is now being shown to the public for the first time.

New Exhibition about Medieval Jewish Daily Life at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and online

On June 2 2021, the European Research Council-Funded research group Beyond the Elite: Jewish Daily Life in Medieval Europe, led by Prof. Elisheva Baumgarten, celebrated the opening of its exhibition “In and Out, Between and Beyond: Jewish Daily Life in Medieval Europe.” Focusing on the group’s research about the ways medieval Jews understood their lives amidst their Christian surroundings, the exhibition is comprised of sixteen units, at the heart of each of which stands a primary source from a particular literary genre.
